Firelei Báez was born in the Dominican Republic near the border with Haiti. Her artwork draws on iconic material from differing cultures which she recasts in fluid fusions of personal navigation. She has been featured in solo shows at Hauser & Wirth; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the ICA Boston; Perez Art Museum, Miami; the Studio Museum in Harlem and others. The artist is currently based in New York.
